Orlando, FL
On a nice Saturday evening, lined up outside of Will’s Pub you can hear the soundcheck happening before the night gets underway as Meet Me at the Altar gets ready to rock out for the second stop of their Worried Sick tour.
Now this was my first time at Will’s Pub as I’ve always heard about the venue but never actually have been there. Most of my intimate shows have involved nerd performances at comic shops and conventions so this was a new experience altogether for me. As the line started to wrap around the building, I can see that this band I personally never heard of had quite the following.
Once doors opened and all the fans started packing in, the show started promptly at 8 with opening act, Pollyanna.(Now again, another band I’m unfamiliar with but their sound definitely took me back to the days when pop punk and skate culture was very prominent.) It’s refreshing to hear that style of music still being represented. Not only that era of music but also representing LGTBTQ Pride. It’s For those that don’t know the Mills District area is very progressive and I love the fact that there are many safe places in the Orlando area that still embrace diversity.

After their set, came the main event of Meet me at the Altar, and what a sight to behold, a black female fronted band live and in color! As their set kicked off, the standing room crowd erupted with excitement and sang along to every tune. Lead vocalist Edith Victoria has a sound that would make any fan of the pop punk heyday proud to experience. Her partner on drums, Ada Jaurez, took a moment to give a shoutout to the Orlando crowd as its one of the places where, โthey got their start and will have a special place in their hearts.โ
The energy was incredible and one thing i always love about hearing and seeing new artists is how they interact and perform for the fans in attendance. It felt intimate and personal and being inside of Will’s Pub made it that much better. They have definitely earned a fan in me from their performance on Saturday night.
