Black History Month may be over, but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to stop recognizing the mark we as Black alternative people have on so many different aspects of culture.

The thought of getting older isn’t pleasant. You slowly watch and feel your youth fading and the pressure to conform gets stronger as you’re thrown into the real world.

However, it’s important that we leave behind proof that we were here for the baby alts that have yet to find out that you don’t have to be the stereotypical emo, scene, whatever. You can have your awkward phase. You can have fried hair. You can be you!

Dressing alternative or gothic as a Black person is not only brave because of the perception society has on us, but also because of the persecution most of us face from our families for dressing “demonic”. We’re grateful for those of you that continue putting that sh!t on!

Be grateful for the community you have found and treasure it. If you haven’t found yours yet, don’t worry! That’s what we’re here for! And if you don’t desire one, that’s okay too. What’s important is that you find a place where you feel you can be you.

Expressing yourself through your makeup doesnโt always require skill. Whatโs important is that you are happy with your look and that you get the message across.

Although Black hairstyles are inherently alternative, copying popular styles in the scene is what most want to do. This can already be difficult, but itโs especially hard on Black hair textures. We applaud those who are showing us how itโs done!
